WSM Services Pty Ltd, trading as Wilson Strategic Management (WSM), is a small management consulting practice with offices in Sydney and Canberra. We work with people in private and public sector organisations seeking to enhance performance.
WSM has specific expertise in the areas of business strategy, marketing (domestic and export), management and team development, including managing the organisation through change. We adopt a strategic focus to improving business processes and the organisation’s internal management environment by focusing on practical priorities and implementing results-based strategies. CAREER SUMMARY
Following a number of years in senior consulting roles with chartered accounting firms, Jim Wilson established WSM in 1992. Jim works principally in Sydney and Canberra on business strategy, marketing and management development assignments for both private and public sector clients, particularly professional service firms. He has worked with organisations in the following sectors : banking and finance, accounting, auditing, consulting engineering, IT, utilities, as well as the public sector at Commonwealth, Territory / State and local levels.
Over the last 20 or more years, Jim has worked with several hundred SMEs on a range of assignments, particularly business planning, organisation and management development. He also has considerable experience with designing and implementing interventions that are typically built around the principles of customer-focused, quality management. Jim is an experienced workshop facilitator and also delivers workshops in the areas of communications (verbal and written), personality styles and thinking preferences, as well as becoming the trusted adviser through ‘smarter selling’ and building trust-based, sustainable business relationships.
Earlier in his career, Jim helped manage the export development activities of a major primary industry, State statutory marketing organisation. In this position, he gained direct commercial experience in most aspects of international trading and also worked as an internal consultant. Prior to this, Jim worked with the Australian Government in the trade and industry portfolios in both policy and administrative areas concerned with international business and marketing, trade and industry policy and government relations. He held appointments as Regional Manager in two State offices, which involved advising companies on export market entry and market development strategies.
